But what do people use all of those magnets for?
Well you have to understand that the magnets of today are not the same magnets most of us played with as youngsters. The magnets are much more powerful that they were. So it takes much less magnetic material to do something than it did before. These magnets are used in the electronics that we have become so found of. It is true that the invention of the integrated circuit made a big difference in trimming down the size but the neodymium magnet has made every bit a difference as Mr. Jack Kilby did.
One example is the speaker for a modern cell phone uses a tiny piece of Neodymium magnet that takes a fraction of the room that an older ceramic magnet made back in the day.
What you really want to know though is, what would you use one of these powerful magnets for in your daily lives.

Holding some of those fake barn door handles and hinges on your garage door without drilling holes. N52 neodymium discs about ¾ diameter x ½ inch thick will do nicely.
Placing seasonally temporary speakers in the yard up under the eaves of the house. Depending on the speaker size but small speakers should be fine with a ¼ x ¾ x 1 ½ Countersunk neodymium block with holes.
