Engineered with identical dimensional geometry on all six sides (Length = Width = Height), our sintered neodymium cube magnets deliver high holding strength, tight grinding tolerances, and clean flat mating surfaces. Standard stock cubes are magnetized through two opposing square faces, allowing them to stack into rigid magnetic columns, form high-efficiency Halbach arrays, or fit square mortise cavities in consumer electronics, robotics, precision sensors, and custom woodworking.

Uniform length, width, and height make cubes easy to press-fit into square milled pockets.
Flat square faces facilitate easy 90° rotational alignment to augment one-sided magnetic fields.
Stocked in N42, N45, N50, and N52 with pull forces ranging from 1.7 lbs up to 150+ lbs.
Triple-layer Ni-Cu-Ni plating with strict tolerances (±0.002") for predictable industrial fit.
Neodymium cube magnets are characterized by three identical orthogonal dimensions. While visually uniform on all six sides, standard cube magnets are anisotropic and magnetized through two opposing flat faces. Because of their equal aspect ratio (Permeance Coefficient, Pc ≈ 1.0), cube magnets operate comfortably above the knee of the B-H demagnetization curve, providing excellent resistance to self-demagnetizing fields.
| Cube Side Dimension | Typical Grade | Nominal Pull Force | Common Engineering Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/8" (3.18 mm) | N45 | ~1.7 lbs (0.77 kg) | Micro-sensors, precision instruments, educational models. |
| 1/4" (6.35 mm) | N42 / N52 | 6.3 – 7.5 lbs | Square cabinetry catches, miniature magnetic couplers, electronics. |
| 1/2" (12.7 mm) | N42 / N52 | 25 – 31 lbs | Stud finders, heavy-duty holding jigs, Halbach magnetic arrays. |
| 3/4" (19.05 mm) | N42 / N52 | 56 – 68 lbs | Industrial metal fabrication clamps, robotic tooling grippers. |
| 1" to 2" (25.4 – 50.8 mm) | N42 / N52 | 120 – 150+ lbs | Heavy industrial lifting, particle accelerators, high-flux separation. |
Standard cube magnets are anisotropic and magnetized through two opposing flat faces (one face is North, the opposite face is South). The remaining four lateral sides will attract steel objects because magnetic flux loops from North to South, but the strongest direct holding force is concentrated strictly on the two pole faces.
While standard inventory is magnetized face-to-face, CMS Magnetics can manufacture diagonally magnetized cubes where poles sit on opposite diagonal corners for specialized research, physics demonstrations, and custom multi-axis rotor prototypes.
Because cubes feature sharp 90° corners, high-energy grades (such as N52 cubes 1/2" and larger) experience severe mechanical point stresses if permitted to snap together. Direct high-velocity impact can cause the brittle sintered NdFeB alloy to chip or fracture. Always use non-magnetic spacers when separating and handling large cubes.
Standard stock grades (N42 to N52) operate reliably up to 80°C (176°F). For applications near heat sources or motors, high-coercivity grades: M (100°C), H (120°C), and SH (150°C) can be custom ordered.
