CMS Magnetics manufactures industrial-grade neodymium channel magnets (also known as rectangular pot magnets or U-channel assemblies) engineered for narrow mounting extrusions, heavy door latches, and linear automation fixturing. Each assembly encases high-energy sintered NdFeB blocks inside a precision-formed zinc- or nickel-plated mild steel channel. The steel walls act as a magnetic shunt, redirecting the flux from both poles forward onto the open rectangular contact plane. This closed-circuit design amplifies direct perpendicular clamping power up to 4x to 5x that of a bare neodymium magnet of identical mass (rated from 25 lbs to 145+ lbs) while shielding the brittle rare-earth core from lateral impact damage.
High-retention magnetic bases for machine stops, featherboards, magnetic tool racks, and CNC chip deflectors.
Flush-mount hardware for retail displays, ceiling banners, acoustic panels, and interchangeable graphics.
Heavy-duty magnets for cabinets, custom furniture, and mobile RV lockers. For installation guides and sizing, see our dedicated cabinet magnets guide.
Rectangular profile seats flush inside aluminum T-slots, metal door frames, and narrow tracks.
Low-carbon steel channel redirects rear flux to the face, concentrating holding power on contact.
Machined center or dual holes accommodate standard flat-head screws with zero surface protrusion.
Raised steel sidewalls absorb repetitive direct slamming, protecting fragile NdFeB from chipping.
Unlike round pot magnets that can rotate around a single central mounting fastener under lateral torque, neodymium channel magnets provide a linear rectangular footprint. When secured with dual countersunk screws along a beam, sash, or machinery rail, channel magnets eliminate rotational slip, making them the standard choice for architectural door hardware, CNC sliding guards, and heavy-duty tool racks.

| Profile Thickness / Height | Ultra-slim low profile (0.187" to 0.375") | Thicker channel profile required (0.500"+) |
| Max Operating Temperature | 80°C (176°F) standard; high-temp custom options | 250°C (482°F) |
| Corrosion & Weather Resistance | Plated steel + Ni-Cu-Ni magnet (indoor / dry preferred) | Naturally rust-proof ceramic oxide (washdown / outdoor) |
| Typical Use Cases | Industrial safety interlocks, concealed architectural catches | Fleet truck signs, gate latches, workshop tool rails |
A bare rectangular neodymium block projects flux symmetrically in 360 degrees. By bonding the block inside a precision-folded structural steel U-channel:
All CMS Magnetics neodymium channel magnets feature factory-machined countersunk holes designed to receive flat-head wood, sheet metal, or machine screws:
Channel magnets have an elongated rectangular shape and usually feature dual mounting holes. This prevents the magnet from pivoting or rotating under torque, which frequently occurs with single-screw round cup magnets. Channel magnets also fit into narrow spaces, such as door jambs, metal extrusion slots, and slender equipment rails.
Our neodymium channel magnets are protected with electrolytic plating (nickel or zinc), making them durable for indoor and dry industrial use. In outdoor, marine, or washdown environments, standing moisture can penetrate between the channel and the sintered core, accelerating corrosion. For permanent exterior installations, choose naturally rust-proof Ceramic Channel Magnets.
The steel U-channel concentrates magnetic flux into a tight loop between the central magnet face and the outer steel channel edges. Because the magnetic circuit is optimized for direct surface contact, the field gradient drops off steeply as distance increases. For deep projection through plastic or wood gaps greater than 1/4 inch, raw Neodymium Block Magnets are recommended.
Most channel magnets feature countersunk holes sized for standard #4, #6, #8, or #10 flat-head screws (refer to the individual product dimension drawing). Always select flat-head or undercut screws that match the countersink angle to ensure the screw head sits completely sub-flush.
